Ever have a week where nothing is going quite right and all you want to do is complain and sit on the couch and watch netflix all day? Yah, me neither ;) Despite the rough week, I have a few fun things to share! First of all, I finished the quilting on the Baby D Chevron quilt. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on it last week. I really like the white stitching on white fabric. Nice and simple, just the way I like it! Right now it's just chillin' on one of the beds in the cabin until I have … [Read more...]
WIP Wednesday: Chevron
Happy Wednesday! This week I was able to finish putting together this chevron quilt top for baby D. I also got the whole thing basted!!! I'm pretty excited about how much I got done, so I'm letting myself forget all of the other things I neglected this week :) I'm thinking for quilting, I'm going to follow the chevron lines and keep things pretty simple. I can't decide if I should have the thread color contrast with the fabric or if I should match it and keep the focus more on the chevrons … [Read more...]
WIP Wednesday: Distractions
I cannot believe it is already Wednesday again. I am in the midst of a busy wedding season (I am a wedding photographer) and spent Thursday-Monday traveling and shooting in the San Juan Islands. It was a beautiful trip but sooo much work. I am glad to be home and hopefully get some down time to work on my projects. My Baby D chevron quilt got a little bit of love this week. I sewed the HSTs into blocks of 4 and am ready to sew them into rows. In a perfect world, I will have the top done this … [Read more...]
Q3 Finish-A-Long and WIP Wednesday
It's time to link up my Q3 WIP List for the 2013 Finish-A-Long over at She Can Quilt! And while I'm at it, they are also my projects for WIP Wednesday. Two for one! Here are the projects I'm currently working on. #1 - Baby D Chevron Quilt: This quilt is for my friend who is due in mid August. I thought it would be finished in no time, but I have been going very slow. I finally finished pressing and trimming all of my HST triangles after putting it off during the recent heat wave. It was really … [Read more...]
Project Planning: Picnic Quilt
I've always wanted to have a picnic/outdoor blanket, so now that I'm getting better at quilting, I thought it was the perfect time to make my own. I have so many ideas for it, so I thought it would be fun put all my inspirations in one spot so I can finish planning it! Elements of my perfect picnic quilt: hardy/water resistant backing comfy cotton top handles, bag, or some way to roll it up and secure machine washable or easy to clean summery vibe built in game(s) pocket for game … [Read more...]
WIP Wednesday: I’m hot
Summer has come roaring to the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Yesterday it was 100° F! We don't have AC or even a fan, so we just stay hot :) I was still able to do a little work on the baby D quilt. I marked all my squares and then started sewing them together to make the half square triangles. I was dripping with sweat the whole time and couldn't bring myself to turn on the iron to press them open. I also realized my sewing machine petal gets very hot when I'm sewing. I've never sewn … [Read more...]
